Hello City Heights! My name is Tonya Ricketts and I am honored and excited to be returning to the City Heights Prep Charter team. I was an Education Specialist for 17 years and taught here at CHP from 2014-2016. Helping students identify their strengths and better understand how they learn best is my favorite thing about teaching. Once students can do this, they are better able to face challenges with learning and in life. I’m committed to being a life-long learner and encourage this approach with students. This led me to follow my interest in brain health and earn a M.A. in Developmental Psychology, train at the UCSD Brain Lab and volunteer for National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Now, as the Student Support Coordinator at CHP, I started the Resilience Program. In Resilience class students learn emotional regulation and resilience skills to support their life balance, learning and their overall educational experience. When I am not at school I enjoy spending time with family, being in the ocean and reading.
